As an aesthetic registered nurse and licensed aesthetician I can’t stress enough the importance of good skin care and finding the right treatment provider. Especially if you’re considering having a chemical peel. My number one recommendation is for clients to do their homework. There are multiple spas in any given area but it is important to find a Medical Spa which requires a Medical Director to ensure that you are receiving a medical grade product and oversight.
Schedule a Consultation
I like to meet with a prospective patient and discuss their goals in order to determine which chemical peel will be right for their skin. A chemical peel improves skin texture, pigmentation and can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. All consultations are free of charge and allow me to understand your aesthetic goals and assess your skin.
Construct a Plan
We will discuss the amount of time necessary and what type of peel I would recommend based on desired outcome aggressive/ cautious and skin type. Lastly, what will be needed at home? To achieve optimum results you need to use the right skincare products both before and after the peel. These products work in conjunction with the peel.
Check Your Schedule
If you are planning on a more aggressive peel, my suggestion to all my patients is to not schedule any special events until your skin is finished with the peeling process. Your skin will usually start to shed 2-3 days after treatment and can last up to 7, depending on the type/strength of the chemical peel. During the peeling process, the only products you’ll want to apply to your skin are a mild cleanser, a moisturizer (I prefer using Aquaphor) and a broad spectrum sunscreen. A possible side effect is you may experience mild irritation, itchiness and inflammation. This is normal and as a nurse I suggest oral Benadryl. Always resist the urge to rub, pick or pull at the peeling skin. It is extremely important for you to let it flake off naturally to avoid scarring and further irritation.
At the end of the process you will achieve brighter, beautiful fresh skin. Call today to schedule a free consultation with me and together we can develop the right treatment plan for you.
