A Chemical Peel isn’t as scary as it sounds, we promise!

The words “Chemical Peel” can be intimidating if you don’t understand the treatment process. We are here to help you understand the procedure and the benefits. We provide multiple strengths of chemical peels and a highly qualified Aesthetician who will assess your skin and determine the proper strength to meet your aesthetic goals.

Chemical peels often get confused with the common skin care mask.  A mask is typically applied to the skin, allowed to sit/dry and then peeled off.  They are often thick and can be done in a spa or at home. A medical grade chemical peel is a clear acid (such as glycolic or lactic) that is applied to the skin, and left to dry. These should only be applied by a licensed Aesthetician in a medical setting.  The acid breaks down the old skin and the peeling or shedding of the skin usually occurs 2 to 3 days after the treatment. The amount of peeling and days is determined by the strength, and desired outcome. The lower strengths produce a gentle peel. Higher strengths have a more aggressive peel. All peels encourage new skin to grow under the old, and when complete, you will see an improved complexion. Chemical peels can lighten brown spot and improve your skin tone leaving it brighter. The stronger strength peels can help reduce acne scars and the appearance of brown spots caused by sun damage.

Cold weather skin care tips that you can do at home.

The winter months can be a challenge to keep our skin hydrated.  As licensed aestheticians at Schenden’s Medical Day Spa, we have a wide range of products and services that can help your skin stay hydrated during the winter months.  In addition, we also like to send our client’s home with things they can do on their own to help combat dry skin. Our top 5 home tips are:

  1. Invest in a humidifier or even boil water to add moisture to your home. The dry indoor air pulls the moisture out of our skin. Having one in your bedroom exposes your skin to much needed moisture for the most consistent number of hours while you sleep.
  2. Avoid dehydrating drinks like caffeine and alcohol.  Our hydration is already low and these drinks actually force more water out of your system.
  3. Drink the recommended 6 to 8 glasses of water a day.  The moisture in the winter is at an all-time low therefore, you must physically replenish it.
  4. Avoid hot showers, we are all guilty of this especially on a -10 degree day. Who doesn’t enjoy a hot shower to escape the cold but this is actually striping the natural oils out of our skin. A warm shower limited to 5 to 10 minutes followed by a good body moisturizer is best.
  5. Add vitamin rich foods to your diet such as Vitamin E which can be found in nuts such as walnuts and green leafy vegetables like spinach and broccoli.

The good news is spring will come but in the meantime stay hydrated.  If you would like to learn more about how to treat your skin, we offer complimentary consultations.  Let us help you love your skin again. Call today to schedule your appointment. 248-524-3622.

Dry Winter Skin? Change your facial skincare routine!

Michigan winters can be brutal on our skin. The cold temperature, harsh winds and dry indoor heat leaves us with dry dehydrated skin. Adding extra moisturizers is a must to bring our skin back to life.
Our faces are exposed daily and require the most attention. Your skincare routine should be adjusted to ensure your products are providing the extra moisture needed during the cold weather months. This is true for even your facial cleansing routine. I use Glowbiotics MD cleanser to start. This probiotic revitalizing gel removes makeup, dirt and oil gently. It also soothes the appearance of redness, firms and brightens while it hydrates the skin.
Many of us need to change or add to our current moisturizer in the winter to make up for the dryness. Glowbiotics MD Probiotic Multi Brightening Anti-aging Cream twice a day provides a much needed barrier replenishing lipids in a moisturizing shea butter. In addition to a great moisturizer, I recommend my clients add the Probiotic Hydra Glow Cream Oil over the top of the moisturizer. This gives your skin a healthy glow and added protection for the day.
It is very important to also have SPF protection even in the winter! Glowbiotics MD tinted SPF 30 is a perfect choice. This has a hint of color, SPF protection with broad spectrum UVA/UVB. In addition it is non-irritating with antioxidants while serving as a smoothing make up primer. The Glowbiotics MD product line is created free of phthalates, sulfates, FD&C dyes parabens and mineral oil.
We provide complimentary product consultations, bring your current products into us and we will discuss what is best for your skin. Whatever the weather, we want your skin to glow. Schedule your skincare analysis today for a beautiful tomorrow. 248-524-3622.
