Laser Hair Removal – Get Ready for Summer

Laser hair removal is a wonderful procedure that removes unsightly hair on all areas of the body. However, if you are entering into your first treatment, you may be wondering what to expect. What areas can be treated, how many treatments will you need and “ouch”, does it hurt? Our office operates the Lumenis LightSheer Duet, which is a state-of-the-art laser hair removal system and one of the most advanced in the market. It has a multi-tip system allowing for faster virtually pain free treatments on larger areas, such as the legs and back. And, a smaller tip for quick effective treatment of the smaller areas such as lip, underarm and bikini area.  Patients receive a complimentary consultation to learn more about laser hair removal prior to treatment.

Treatments can completed on nearly any area of the body including legs, underarms, back and bikini. Regardless of the area being treated, the technician will consult with you on the various treatment protocol and costs prior to treatment. Patients should plan on having 6 treatments per area for maximum results, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Most of our patients can expect to see approximately 80% hair loss after the first 3 treatments alone. The technicians will also go over other safety protocol and urge to patients to stay out of the sun prior to and following immediate treatment, which is why laser hair removal is most popular in the winter.

It is very common for our female patients to receive hair removal treatments of the face, especially if they have darker colored hair growing caused by hormonal issues such as pregnancy.  One of the other popular areas for our female patients is bikini treatments. A simple bikini line treatment will constitute the area outside of the panty line where hair can often grow. From there, there are different bikini packages offered to remove more hair, all the way up to complete.  If you are a women who has been receiving bikini waxes for a long time, this will be a welcomed change to be hair free following the treatment series.

However, when it comes to men, they typically lean towards laser hair removal of the back, chest or smaller areas like the fingers or ears. Treatments of large areas such as a full mans back, can be completed in less than an hour and will be virtually pain free. The treatments cause very minimal discomfort and do not require any downtime. The treatment area will be slightly pink and may have mild puffiness following treatment, which will subside in a few hours. Bikini Wax…1st timer or waxing junkie?

Bikini Wax: two words that cause women to wince and squirm. Whether you’re a first-timer or a waxing junkie, the idea never seems pleasant. But it can be tolerable, especially if you know what to expect.

What are the various kinds of bikini waxes? Traditional: The most modest bikini wax that involves the removal of hair that might show while wearing a swimsuit. Brazilian: Everything in the bikini area from front to back is removed.

Will it hurt? The aesthetician will apply a very gentle hypoallergenic wax that will be warm but never hot. Using a gentle high quality wax is an important element and helps to prevent red or irritated skin following treatment. The aesthetician will remove the wax with a quick pull. Expect it to sting but only for a split second.

How far in advance should you wax before an event or wearing a bathing suit? Generally, the day before is fine. If you know you have extra-sensitive skin, go two days before. Newly waxed skin is a bit sensitive to the sun, so be sure to apply sunscreen around the bikini line.

The take home message: for those men and women who have tried waxing at home or endured the grueling task of shaving – consider waxing from a professional. Quick, discreet, and a longer lasting result. For more information on our waxing services please contact the spa reception team at 248-524-3622.
