What skincare treatments are best for spring series in May?

We asked our Aestheticians and here are their recommendations!

#1  Unwanted capillaries?

Spring and fall season is the perfect time to remove unwanted capillaries, by the use of our telangitron or IPL treatments. Harsh cold and hot temperatures can promote broken capillaries, which causes a ruddy uneven skin tone. Because the spring and fall brings milder temperatures it is ideal to clean up these capillaries and help promote a more even skin tone.

#2 Exfoliate winter skin

Coming out of the dry winter months we recommend exfoliating the skin to brighten and give you a healthy glow.  We offer a combination treatment of dermaplaning to remove peach fuzz and microdermabrasion to clean your pores and removing the dead skin cells face. To take it to the next level we stack it with a chemical to lighten and brighten leaving your skin feeling and looking refreshed.

#3 Bikini and Underarm Wax

Spring waxing is a perfect time to prepare for vacation to remove unwanted hair and also gear up for summer fun in your swimsuit and sleeveless shirts. Fall & winter is the perfect time to get laser hair removal to remove unwanted hair in a more permanent way because the skin is less likely to be tanned. “The lighter the skin … the darker the hair”  … the better results you will get!

#4  MicroNeedling!

MicroNeedling is a perfect treatment to have during any season. In the spring microneedling will stimulate collagen production and allow much needed nutrients like peptides and vitamin C to be absorbed into the skin to bring back the skins natural glow. This treatment can also reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and because it does not involve heat there is no risk of hyperpigmentation in fact it helps reduce hyperpigmentation.

Cold weather skin care tips that you can do at home.

The winter months can be a challenge to keep our skin hydrated.  As licensed aestheticians at Schenden’s Medical Day Spa, we have a wide range of products and services that can help your skin stay hydrated during the winter months.  In addition, we also like to send our client’s home with things they can do on their own to help combat dry skin. Our top 5 home tips are:

  1. Invest in a humidifier or even boil water to add moisture to your home. The dry indoor air pulls the moisture out of our skin. Having one in your bedroom exposes your skin to much needed moisture for the most consistent number of hours while you sleep.
  2. Avoid dehydrating drinks like caffeine and alcohol.  Our hydration is already low and these drinks actually force more water out of your system.
  3. Drink the recommended 6 to 8 glasses of water a day.  The moisture in the winter is at an all-time low therefore, you must physically replenish it.
  4. Avoid hot showers, we are all guilty of this especially on a -10 degree day. Who doesn’t enjoy a hot shower to escape the cold but this is actually striping the natural oils out of our skin. A warm shower limited to 5 to 10 minutes followed by a good body moisturizer is best.
  5. Add vitamin rich foods to your diet such as Vitamin E which can be found in nuts such as walnuts and green leafy vegetables like spinach and broccoli.

The good news is spring will come but in the meantime stay hydrated.  If you would like to learn more about how to treat your skin, we offer complimentary consultations.  Let us help you love your skin again. Call today to schedule your appointment. 248-524-3622.

Dry Winter Skin? Change your facial skincare routine!

Michigan winters can be brutal on our skin. The cold temperature, harsh winds and dry indoor heat leaves us with dry dehydrated skin. Adding extra moisturizers is a must to bring our skin back to life.
Our faces are exposed daily and require the most attention. Your skincare routine should be adjusted to ensure your products are providing the extra moisture needed during the cold weather months. This is true for even your facial cleansing routine. I use Glowbiotics MD cleanser to start. This probiotic revitalizing gel removes makeup, dirt and oil gently. It also soothes the appearance of redness, firms and brightens while it hydrates the skin.
Many of us need to change or add to our current moisturizer in the winter to make up for the dryness. Glowbiotics MD Probiotic Multi Brightening Anti-aging Cream twice a day provides a much needed barrier replenishing lipids in a moisturizing shea butter. In addition to a great moisturizer, I recommend my clients add the Probiotic Hydra Glow Cream Oil over the top of the moisturizer. This gives your skin a healthy glow and added protection for the day.
It is very important to also have SPF protection even in the winter! Glowbiotics MD tinted SPF 30 is a perfect choice. This has a hint of color, SPF protection with broad spectrum UVA/UVB. In addition it is non-irritating with antioxidants while serving as a smoothing make up primer. The Glowbiotics MD product line is created free of phthalates, sulfates, FD&C dyes parabens and mineral oil.
We provide complimentary product consultations, bring your current products into us and we will discuss what is best for your skin. Whatever the weather, we want your skin to glow. Schedule your skincare analysis today for a beautiful tomorrow. 248-524-3622.

Day versus Night Moisturizer, Learn the reasons why you may need different products

When we are young and first start using a face moisturizer, most people typically buy one product and use it both in the morning and at night. You can do this but there are advantages to using two different products. Your skin is exposed to two different environments and pairing the right product will help keep your skin’s youthful glow. We like to think of it in terms of Daytime Protect, Nighttime Correct.

Protect during the day

During the day our faces are exposed to the sun. Protection from the harmful rays must be your first priority. Daytime moisturizers must contain an SPF to protect your skin. Additionally, if you wear makeup a lighter consistency is best and allows for ease in makeup application. Many daytime lotions also come tinted which acts not only as a protectant but as your foundation as well.

Correct at night

Nighttime is an excellent time for deeper hydration and correcting your skins tone and texture. During the day your skin is exposed to air pollutants such as dust, dirt and smog bacteria. Night moisturizers are often thicker with more ingredients for healing/correcting any exposure and nourishing your skin while you sleep. Retinol is often present in a night cream. It is deactivated when exposed to sun therefore it is perfect to team with your night moisturizer. A good retinol will boost collagen production, reduce wrinkles and prevent fine lines. It can also speed cell turnover and unclog your pores which reduces acne and pore size.

The number one thing to take away is the importance of taking care of your skin and using a quality moisturizer day and night. Our skincare professionals can work with you to ensure you’re using the correct product for your skin type. We offer complimentary skincare product analysis. Simply bring in all your current products and one of our highly qualified skincare providers will review them with you and determine what is best for your skin. With thousands of products on the market it is nice to have an expert’s help. Call today to set up your free skincare consultation. 248-524-3622
