IPL Laser Treatment

It’s finally Fall & with that comes your natural skin tone! Don’t be upset about that though, because tanned skin is a big “No,No” when it comes to Medical Spa laser treatments. IPL is a great laser, and we are here to tell you all about it!

IPL-(Intense Pulsed Light) treatment is a photo rejuvenation laser treatment and is most commonly used for:

  • Lightening and removing “sun spots”, “age spots”, and brown blotches on the face, neck, chest, hands and other areas of the body.
  • Lightening and reducing redness, rosacea, dilated blood vessels and “broken” blood vessels on the face, neck and chest.
  • Helping to control flushing which is the temporary redness of the skin from rosacea.
  • It also has the added benefit of improving skin texture through collagen stimulation and minimizes pore size by temporarily reducing oiliness.

IPL or photo rejuvenation, when done properly, almost always consists of a series of 3-5 treatments, commonly spaced three to six weeks apart. The benefits of IPL are achieved with little discomfort and minimal risk. Thus giving you back your clear skin tone.

Body Contouring- Combination Treatments Work

We all have those “problem” areas that don’t go away with diet and exercise. The aesthetic world also has many different treatment options available to battle these areas.  Non-surgical treatments to treat cellulite and tighten skin take time and are not quick easy fixes. The most effective noninvasive treatments need to be completed in a series with follow up maintenance.  We spoke with Bonnie to learn her approach to body contouring. Learn why our clients love working with her and see results.

It begins at the consultation when I can see what the issues are by looking and touching the problem areas to determine the stages of cellulite and other things like, dimpling, needed inch loss, contour for proportion, excess bulges, and sagging due to gravity.  Most women and men have a combination of these.   Velashape III™ generates radiating light that heats up and moves through space,  this results in shrinkage and some tightening of the skin.  I still consider Endermologie™ the best on the market for working antigravity, contour, and the reduction of the appearance of cellulite.  I feel that if the cellulite is a stage 3-4, they need Endermologie first.  If I reduce that drastically, the radiating heat of the Velashape III will move through the space more effectively and they will achieve a better long term result.  This approach is showing great results and client satisfaction is high.

If the client is in a hurry and anxious about getting a quick result for an event.   I will alternate treatments every other week. Velashape is a bi weekly treatment.  The Velashape treatment is still working for you during week two.  The second week I perform Endermologie on the surrounding area as you do not want to interfere with the Velashape treatment area. This approach is better suited for the less severe cases and a quick fix solution.

The number of treatments vary depending on the severity of the area.  This is determined at the time of consultation. If minimal cellulite exists and light to moderate skin tightening is the goal, typically I would recommend 6-8 Endermologie treatments and three Velashape treatments.  If cellulite is severe and more skin tightening is needed, then 10-12 Endermologie treatments and 6 Velashape treatments are recommended.  Usually half way through the treatment regiment, we will reevaluate the progress and make adjustments if necessary.

Once we achieve the desired outcome, maintenance along with proper diet and exercise are required to ensure our bodies keep the results.  Our maintenance guidelines for Endermologie is a 1 hour treatment every month.  Velashape requires an hour treatment every 3 months.  If you are eating right and exercising, this program may be maintained for 2 years.  Our bodies will continue to age and our metabolism changes with age and lifestyle. Results are variable.

At Schenden’s Medical Day Spa, we offer complimentary consultations on all of our body contouring treatments.  Call us today to schedule your appointment and let us help you feel confident with your body. 248-524-3622.

Do you suffer from rough, dry, calloused feet?  You are not alone, many of us have had our feet snag the bed sheets in the night and wear socks ALL the time to hide them.  Our feet and hands take a lot of abuse during the course of day. For the most part we take care of our hands with washing, scrubbing and the occasional lotion application.  However, our feet seem to be more neglected and in the winter they show this neglect more than ever. The cold weather and dry inside air takes a toll on our skin and our feet show this with the formation of callouses.  The good news is we are now offering a new treatment to turn back the clock on your feet and give them some much overdue attention.

With our new YUMI® Feet Treatment you can enjoy soft smooth skin again on the bottoms of your feet.  This revolutionary new treatment was the breakthrough product in France and is now offered in the US.  YUMI feet is designed to get rid of calluses in just 15 minutes. Think of it as a chemical peel for your feet. It removes the callosities in a painless, safe and fast way.    Unlike the razor blade technique (which is medically not recommended) the skin grows back softer with each treatment. The peel is customized specifically to your feet’s needs.

We offer two treatment options:

  • A standalone Yumi Feet Treatment which consists of the Yumi application, Buffing and Lotion (30 minutes).
  • A combination treatment beginning with the Yumi treatment and adding our popular express pedicure.

Both of these services leave your feet healthy and soft.  For optimum results we recommend you should receive a YUMI treatment once a month, depending on the severity of your callouses.  Call our Spa located in Troy, Michigan today to schedule your Yumi Feet treatment and give your feet the attention they deserve. 248-524-3622.

Let’s talk About Endermologie & Cellulite

Just about 90% of women, over the age of 20, begin to develop cellulite or actually already have it. Due to this, spa procedures to help reduce cellulite have really increased! Endermologie is a great way to tackle this annoying issue us women & men face. Even though you cannot rid yourself of cellulite completely, Endermologie massively improves the appearance of those bumps & lumps!

What is the Endermologie treatment?

Endermologie is process of reducing cellulite by mechanical means, using rolling, massaging and manipulation of the tissues.

Endermologie is a non surgical and is the first cellulite treatment approved by the FDA! Endermologie helps improves circulation, relieve minor aches in your muscles, even  improves skin radiance and skin tone.

Cellulite, what are you? Why are you here?!

Right off the bat, Cellulite you suck, and honestly, what are you? You may have heard it be called the “orange peel effect”. This can be on all places of both men & women’s bodies, from our thighs to the backs of our arms.  Mostly where it is found though, is on the the backs of our things. It dimples in, giving our skin that uneven appearance, even in the best case of lighting scenarios. Thankfully, it is painless though, so we can’t complain there.  It’s caused by fat cells beneath our skin that trap toxins and retain water. The action of the massaging machine during Endermologie, breaks down water and toxins, and the fat cells, allowing the lymphatic system to drain it. (hooray!) While you cannot entirely get rid of cellulite, there are things to help you better understand cellulite entirely.

Diet – CARBS- cellulites biggest fan! Eating too much carbohydrates, fat and salt can increase your cellulite. Something that can help is to try eating more fibre enriched foods. This can have a small impact on the appearance of cellulite overall.

Clothes – Oddly enough, restricting your blood flow by wearing overly tight clothing can affect your cellulite. It also shows the appearance more of it too. So looser clothes can help to better the circulation here as well.

Genes & Hormones – Your genetic characteristics, something you can’t change, has an affect on this as well. Things like a slow metabolism or a poor circulatory system could mean you are at a higher risk for getting cellulite. Many people have also come to believe that certain hormones (prolactin, estrogen, insulin, noradrenaline, and thyroid hormones) do have a big part in the production and development of cellulite.

Exercising & dieting.

No- there isn’t a “Cure” for cellulite per-say, but yes! Having a balanced, healthy, and well rounded diet combined with routine exercise will only be in your favor when trying to tackle cellulite. Combining these things will truly increase your results overall when you begin and continue your Endermologie treatments.

Come in for a consultation and we can discuss all of these things with you. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle will definitely help your all over results with Endermologie, and we highly recommend it!

What skincare treatments are best for spring series in May?

We asked our Aestheticians and here are their recommendations!

#1  Unwanted capillaries?

Spring and fall season is the perfect time to remove unwanted capillaries, by the use of our telangitron or IPL treatments. Harsh cold and hot temperatures can promote broken capillaries, which causes a ruddy uneven skin tone. Because the spring and fall brings milder temperatures it is ideal to clean up these capillaries and help promote a more even skin tone.

#2 Exfoliate winter skin

Coming out of the dry winter months we recommend exfoliating the skin to brighten and give you a healthy glow.  We offer a combination treatment of dermaplaning to remove peach fuzz and microdermabrasion to clean your pores and removing the dead skin cells face. To take it to the next level we stack it with a chemical to lighten and brighten leaving your skin feeling and looking refreshed.

Gail/Laura/Polly

#3 Bikini and Underarm Wax

Spring waxing is a perfect time to prepare for vacation to remove unwanted hair and also gear up for summer fun in your swimsuit and sleeveless shirts. Fall & winter is the perfect time to get laser hair removal to remove unwanted hair in a more permanent way because the skin is less likely to be tanned. “The lighter the skin … the darker the hair”  … the better results you will get!

Rebecca

#4  MicroNeedling!

MicroNeedling is a perfect treatment to have during any season. In the spring microneedling will stimulate collagen production and allow much needed nutrients like peptides and vitamin C to be absorbed into the skin to bring back the skins natural glow. This treatment can also reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and because it does not involve heat there is no risk of hyperpigmentation in fact it helps reduce hyperpigmentation.

Filler – Don’t forget the Sunscreen!

Don’t forget about sunscreen every day!   and a moisturizing skin care regimen for the spring and summer months. We will help you develop the right skincare routine to prevent sun damage, premature wrinkles, pigmentation, oily skin and acne break outs from the spring sun and heat.

Smooth Operators

This is the time of year where your complexion is in need of a little refresher.

Let’s get our scrub on and remove the old dull skin, and in with the
lighter and brighter. Effective exfoliation will leave your skin with a
smoother texture and increase your serums or creams absorption. Let’s go
pro and scrub in on the options available.

There are many different modalities that penetrate the skin further than
topical treatments. They smooth bumps, diminish discoloration, treat fine lines
and target acne. Make sure to do your homework and select a Board Certified
Plastic Surgeon, Dermatologist or an Aesthetician working under the guidance
of a Doctor for your skin needs

Microdermabrasion
This non-invasive procedure that gently exfoliates the skin to diminish signs of
aging. The microderm machine may use tiny crystals or a tip that varies in
coarseness to smooth the skin. Afterwards, your skin may feel slightly
sunburned for a day or two.

Dermaplaning
A qualified expert uses a blade to remove dead layers of skin. This procedure
decreases dull, dry skin by safely removing it and the bonus is a flawless baby
fuzz free face.

Peels
Chemical Peels involve AHA and BHA’s. There are different percentages for
mild to higher corrective strengths. The chemical is applied for several minutes
And then removed. Recovery will vary depending on strengths.
Results afterwards will leave the skin radiant.

Fractional Lasers
This is the most efficient way to change the texture of the skin and
stimulate collagen. The downside is the recovery is longer. This type of
treatment triggers a wound response, causing the skin to trigger the cells
to repair and produce new cells. Your skin will swell and be red for a few
days with peeling as well. Expect a week or two of recovery. Results
that are expected are a noticeable reduction in the components of sun
damaged skin, fine lines, wrinkles, and scarring.
Producing an even skin tone, tighter skin, and a thicker collagen layer as well.

A Chemical Peel isn’t as scary as it sounds, we promise!

The words “Chemical Peel” can be intimidating if you don’t understand the treatment process. We are here to help you understand the procedure and the benefits. We provide multiple strengths of chemical peels and a highly qualified Aesthetician who will assess your skin and determine the proper strength to meet your aesthetic goals.

Chemical peels often get confused with the common skin care mask.  A mask is typically applied to the skin, allowed to sit/dry and then peeled off.  They are often thick and can be done in a spa or at home. A medical grade chemical peel is a clear acid (such as glycolic or lactic) that is applied to the skin, and left to dry. These should only be applied by a licensed Aesthetician in a medical setting.  The acid breaks down the old skin and the peeling or shedding of the skin usually occurs 2 to 3 days after the treatment. The amount of peeling and days is determined by the strength, and desired outcome. The lower strengths produce a gentle peel. Higher strengths have a more aggressive peel. All peels encourage new skin to grow under the old, and when complete, you will see an improved complexion. Chemical peels can lighten brown spot and improve your skin tone leaving it brighter. The stronger strength peels can help reduce acne scars and the appearance of brown spots caused by sun damage.

Don’t let the word chemical intimidate you. We offer complimentary consultations on all our skincare treatments.  Call today to schedule your appointment and enjoy brighter beautiful fresh skin. 248-524-3622

Cold weather skin care tips that you can do at home.

The winter months can be a challenge to keep our skin hydrated.  As licensed aestheticians at Schenden’s Medical Day Spa, we have a wide range of products and services that can help your skin stay hydrated during the winter months.  In addition, we also like to send our client’s home with things they can do on their own to help combat dry skin. Our top 5 home tips are:

  1. Invest in a humidifier or even boil water to add moisture to your home. The dry indoor air pulls the moisture out of our skin. Having one in your bedroom exposes your skin to much needed moisture for the most consistent number of hours while you sleep.
  2. Avoid dehydrating drinks like caffeine and alcohol.  Our hydration is already low and these drinks actually force more water out of your system.
  3. Drink the recommended 6 to 8 glasses of water a day.  The moisture in the winter is at an all-time low therefore, you must physically replenish it.
  4. Avoid hot showers, we are all guilty of this especially on a -10 degree day. Who doesn’t enjoy a hot shower to escape the cold but this is actually striping the natural oils out of our skin. A warm shower limited to 5 to 10 minutes followed by a good body moisturizer is best.
  5. Add vitamin rich foods to your diet such as Vitamin E which can be found in nuts such as walnuts and green leafy vegetables like spinach and broccoli.

The good news is spring will come but in the meantime stay hydrated.  If you would like to learn more about how to treat your skin, we offer complimentary consultations.  Let us help you love your skin again. Call today to schedule your appointment. 248-524-3622.

Dry Winter Skin? Change your facial skincare routine!

Michigan winters can be brutal on our skin. The cold temperature, harsh winds and dry indoor heat leaves us with dry dehydrated skin. Adding extra moisturizers is a must to bring our skin back to life.
Our faces are exposed daily and require the most attention. Your skincare routine should be adjusted to ensure your products are providing the extra moisture needed during the cold weather months. This is true for even your facial cleansing routine. I use Glowbiotics MD cleanser to start. This probiotic revitalizing gel removes makeup, dirt and oil gently. It also soothes the appearance of redness, firms and brightens while it hydrates the skin.
Many of us need to change or add to our current moisturizer in the winter to make up for the dryness. Glowbiotics MD Probiotic Multi Brightening Anti-aging Cream twice a day provides a much needed barrier replenishing lipids in a moisturizing shea butter. In addition to a great moisturizer, I recommend my clients add the Probiotic Hydra Glow Cream Oil over the top of the moisturizer. This gives your skin a healthy glow and added protection for the day.
It is very important to also have SPF protection even in the winter! Glowbiotics MD tinted SPF 30 is a perfect choice. This has a hint of color, SPF protection with broad spectrum UVA/UVB. In addition it is non-irritating with antioxidants while serving as a smoothing make up primer. The Glowbiotics MD product line is created free of phthalates, sulfates, FD&C dyes parabens and mineral oil.
We provide complimentary product consultations, bring your current products into us and we will discuss what is best for your skin. Whatever the weather, we want your skin to glow. Schedule your skincare analysis today for a beautiful tomorrow. 248-524-3622.
